Highlight Story

Delhi-based band, Rishi Inc, take you on a spiritual journey with their music.

Who are they?

Rishi Inc. is a folk-fusion band. They have managed to delve into the intricacies of combining Indian classical and western forms of music. All this has been presented so that the outcome is spiritual in its essence, and blends with the Sufi style of music.

Why should you care?

Their music has been brought up to appeal to the masses and bring out their sense of tradition, culture, and love of one’s own music, as well as try to acquaint them to the other stylistic approaches to non-hindustani music as well. Rishi Inc. has also carefully adapted some folk tunes by adding their own flavour to make them reach a wider contemporary audience.

How long have they been around?

The band was formed in 2010.

Why this name?

The band was of a common opinion that the name they give to describe themselves was inconsequential as long as the message they wanted to send was out there. So, since the band’s keyboardist Rishi Dutta was the one with the original idea upon which all of them worked, the band decided to call themselves Rishi Incorporated or Rishi Inc.

What makes them click?

For them, music is about bringing out the serenity, purity and authenticity of one’s being, with a slight touch of novelty. And living in the most diverse nation of all, India, what could be better than bringing out that very serenity, purity and authenticity of our motherland. They love to perform in Delhi.

Why is that?

As the band puts it, Delhi is open and acceptable to all kinds of culture, and when it comes to music, all styles and genres. Besides, all members of the band are Delhiites.

They are remembered for?

They have performed at various prestigious festivals like Delhi International Arts Festival, Escape, World music Festival, Hindu College, IIT Delhi etc. The members also recently came out with their promo video showcasing the band. You can watch the video on their website.

Are they socially active?

The band’s website is www.rishiinconline.com and their Facebook page is www.facebook.com/RISHI-INC
