R D Burman’s saxophonist and a music assistant, Manohari Singh, 79, passed away on Tuesday, following a cardiac arrest. “Very sorry to hear about Manohari Singh’s cardiac arrest,” Asha Bhosle said.



Lata Mangeshkar offered condolensce too. ‘A very good saxophone player, great arranger and a fabulous human being, Manohari

passed away. My condolences to his family,’ she posted on Twitter.



He recenlty accompanied Bhosle and two other associates of Burman — Kancha and Homi Mullan — on the sets of Sony TV’s

Indian Idol 5

for a special episode dedicated to the late composer. Singh became emotional on the show when Bhosle spoke about Burman.



Singh played the saxophone on Burman’s compositions like

Gaata rahe mera dil

, and for songs in more recent movies like

Chalte Chalte

and

Veer Zaara

.
