It was touted as one of the biggest musical events in India — but the live performance of American rapper Pitbull in Noida on Friday night, did not live up to its hype.

The 30-year-old rapper was to perform with international names such as singers Enrique Iglesias, Jennifer Lopez and Brazilian model Adriana Lima — but when he finally showed up four-and-a-half-hours late — he was all alone.

About 1,800 fans who had gathered at the venue, Quantum night club in Noida, were left stranded till 1.30am for Pitbull to make his appearance. “He had reached Delhi earlier in the day, but couldn’t arrive at the venue on time, the crowd had to be subdued by the many bouncers as everyone thought the Metallica fiasco may be repeating itself,” said 20-year-old student, Kriti Mohindra.

However, once the singer took stage, the crowd was ready to party. Instead of a gimmicky introduction, Pitbull made his entry with the song, Hey Baby.

He sang hit numbers such as Bon Bon, Hotel Room, Rain Over Me and Give Me Everything, among many others. “I’m really excited to finally be here,” he said, as he called on the crowd to sing along and dance to his music. As the party got on, Pitbull also had to keep requesting people in the crowd to stop pushing each other.
