The Global Indian Music Academy (GIMA) Awards, which have positioned themselves as a platform to honour mainstream as well as alternative music is expanding its repertoire of honours. This year, GIMA has added three new categories, making it a total of 13 awards in the non-film music categories and 11 awards for film music. In the latter category, there is a new award for the Best Duet whereas in the former, there are two new honours — one for Best Electronic Dance Music (EDM) Track and another for Best Indie Single.
“With the introduction of the new categories, we hope to receive a wider and more diverse range of entries that reflect the pulse of the music scene in the country,” says Sabbas Joseph, director, Wizcraft International, GIMA organisers.
Commenting on the new development, singer Sonu Nigam says, “I am eager to see the nominations in the non-film categories as they really open up opportunities for musicians who work outside of the film industry.”
