So 2011 starts on an energetic musical note for Delhiwallahs. Come January 15, and the English Dance Music (EDM) Prodigy will rock this part of the country as they headline the first edition of the Eristoff Invasion festival.
Pioneers of the big beat genre of the 90s, the Prodigy members are looking forward to the Indian experience. Along with the fanciest ever lighting production of the concert and over 5000kgs of equipment they’re coming with an open mind.Vocalist-MC Maxim says that the experience will go beyond just shows. "We can’t wait to come and rock India. We want to look around and see India, be open minded. It’s not only about the shows, but also about the whole experience — people, surroundings, the environment."
They may not be very familiar with Bollywood but the band has been making news even before their arrival thanks to talks about them being featured on SRK’s Ra One. But, Zak Biddu, Eristoff Invasion co-organiser and band representative clears the air, "The Prodigy are visiting India only for the purpose of headlining the festivals. Regarding the Ra.One soundtrack, nothing has been formally proposed to the band."
Whether the collaboration happens or not, the members sure have Bollywood music on their checklist. Composer- keyboardist Liam Howlett says, “I find it really fascinating, I don’t really know anything about it. The only thing I know is on some old 1970s kind of recording, a soundtrack. It’s a very old record of Asha Bhosle’s.”
