Blessed with a raspy voice, Quratulain Balouch is a next-gen Pakistani rockstar, who has sung the title track of actor

Fawad Khan’s

second TV show in India. Popularly known as QB, she has no formal training in classical music, but is heavily inspired by Abida Parveen and Reshma.

It wouldn’t be wrong to call her a singer by accident either, because she was studying multimedia in the US, when music happened to her. “Singing was nowhere near my set of goals. I only sang the classic numbers of Abida Ji and Reshma in the bathroom. I wasn’t aware of my vocal strength until I travelled to Pakistan for my summer break in 2010. A friend suggested that I record something and put it on YouTube. I did that and here I am,” says QB.

The singer feels it’s hard to label her music with a specific genre. “I’m experimenting, and despite having no formal training; exposure and scrutiny of my music have taught me a lot,” says QB.
Talking about the Pakistani audience’s reaction and appreciation of her music, and new-age singers like her, she says, “If it wasn’t for the Pakistani audience, I wouldn’t have been here. They have welcomed and embraced me with open arms.”
