Highlight Story

It was a night of sizzling, strippy performances at the American Music Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday. Rapper Nicki Minaj, 28, opened the show with her hit single Super Bass in a metallic outfit that had two large speakers jutting out from her chest and hips ala Madonna’s famous conical assets, before she was named the favourite hip-hop artist and took home another award for the best hip-hop album, Pink Friday. “This one could actually make me cry,” she said.

A little later, Latin diva Jennifer Lopez, 42, strut her stuff no-holds-barred in a sheer bodysuit, leaving little to the imagination of her fans. She shared stage with rapper Pitbull, mock-rubbing her posterior on his front. Baywatch’s David Hasselhoff joined pop duo LMFAO in stripping to their boxers that had a smiley on the front and a ‘Don’t judge me’ tag behind.

Meanwhile, Country music singer Taylor Swift walked away with three prizes, including Artist of the Year.

Music binds US
The American Music Awards 2011 saw the singing superstars at their wackiest best Outlandish outfits, erotic antics, and superlative performances wound up the AMA night on Sunday at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. Singer Taylor Swift took home the biggest honour, while British soul diva Adele won three awards of the four categories in which she was nominated. However, she could not attend the do because of her recent throat surgery. Singer Justin Bieber, who was last year’s big winner, failed to take home any trophy. Pop queen Lady Gaga got the award for the best female video. Talking about her AMA triumph, Swift said, “It was one of the most amazing things that have ever happened to me.”
