Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, who have given us some truly memorable songs, are set to add another first to their career. The trio will soon perform at their debut unplugged concert in a 15-year long career. Says Ehsaan, “Acoustics work well and we've done something like this at corporate events. It was a great idea to add it to a public show. It is not difficult, but you really need promoters with vision to do something like this on a huge platform."
The concert will be performed at the lawns of the Royal Western India Turf Club, on Saturday, March 10, 7 pm onwards.
Says Ashvin Gidwani of Ashvin Gidwani Productions (AGP), the company that is managing the whole event, “I devised the concept of an acoustic concert format a year-and-a half ago. At that time the format was completely alien to Bollywood singers, who are used to performing in public on a digital format. Shankar, being from a Carnatic music background, can take his melodious voice to any crescendo. And this would be an opportunity to hear him live and real in his unplugged style with no electronic backing at all.”
Shankar says, “When natural sounds come together; the result produced can be truly magical. And magic is what we'll try to create..”
For the concert, Loy will be keyed on to a grand piano, Ehsaan on his acoustic guitar and Shankar will sing. A percussion ensemble with the flute and saxophone will also accompany the trio, which will play some their all-time hits like, Kal ho na ho, Taare zameen par, Kabhi alvida na kehna, Rock on, Wake up Sid, Don, Zindagi na milegi dobara and of course, Dil chahta hai.
