Highlight Story

Daler MehndiAfter keeping low for a while, singer Daler Mehndi is back. But, this time, it’s not with a music album or a Bollywood number, but a single. "There is no singer in the country whose single song has been released by any music label. Aap gaana suniye, youtube mein usko 5 star mile hain," says the singer, who’s collaborated with music label T-series to release the single, Koko. "A first of its kind collaboration, it tells the story of a naughty young girl," says Daler. The Punjabi singer has not only composed the music for the song, but has penned the lyrics too.

Meanwhile, the singer is also facing flak for his latest stint at remixing Bollywood’s evergreen patriotic song, Meri Desh Ki Dharti, in Sohail Khan’s Kisaan. But Daler responds, “Log hazaro saal purane muddo pe bawaal khade karte hai, toh mera remix gaana toh uske saamne kuch bhi nahin.”

Daler is also trying his luck in South Indian movies. He recently sung a Telegu number for the movie Magadheera. How difficult was it to get the language right? “It wasn’t difficult at all. I finished recordings in just two hours,” he says. As we wind up, the singer signs off with his signature smile, “Aap mera gaana Koko zarur suniye.” We sure will!
