Come May and pop singer Taylor Swift will receive a new award, which strangely enough, is named after her at the 64th Annual BMI Pop Awards. The Taylor Swift Award will be given to recognise the 26-year-old pop superstar’s “incomparable creative and artistic talent and influence on music lovers throughout the world,” reports aceshowbiz.com.
“Taylor Swift has transformed pop culture through her songs, artistry and indomitable spirit,” Barbara Cane, BMI vice president of writer/public relations, said in a statement.

Swift, however, isn’t the first influential figure to have her name used for a BMI prize. In 1990, the organisation gave the Michael Jackson Award to none other than Michael Jackson himself.
The 64th Annual BMI Pop Awards is taking place on May 10 in Beverly Hills, California. That night will also see songwriters Barry Mann and Cynthia Weil receiving the BMI Icon Award.
