The nomadic party concept, Grime Riot Disco (GRD), is returning to Bandra after roughly a year. Back in May 2011, these nights used to be held at Bollywood Mischief on Hill Road before Cool Chef Café in Worli took over hosting the dancing gigs.
And now, the next GRD night will be held at Rude Lounge on Hill Road, Bandra on April 20, incidentally, the same spot where Bollywood Mischief used to be. “Grime Riot Disco was a touring party. We scope out new spots to see if they fit us and host the party there. Moving it around has allowed us to try new things, work with different people and switch up the routine of people who go out,” says one of the organisers, on the condition of anonymity. “We have been asked by our friends to try out spots in Bandra, so for now we are coming back to the suburbs,” he adds.
Meanwhile, Cool Chef Café’s proprietor Tarun Thadani says that his pub’s association with such novel concepts hasn’t ended, since he has a series of other theme nights planned. “GRD has moved to Bandra, but our association doesn’t stop there. On April 21, we’re starting the All Good nights. It’s just going to be a little more sophisticated. A healthy mix of men and women is what we’re expecting at these new concept nights,” he says.
These evenings, which will be held at Cool Chef Café permanently, will veer towards more experimental electronic dance music, as opposed to the disco, funk and techno mash-ups that GRD is all about.
