Born in Dehradun, Vir Das grew up in Nigeria, and studied at The Lawrence School — Sanawar (Himachal Pradesh).

Vir Das, who is currently in the US for his second comedy tour, seems to have been tremendously inspired by the underground music scene in the country. The stand-up comic-turned-actor also has a comedy rock band called Alien Chutney. So, whenever he travels, he is always on the lookout for interesting musicians and genres to collaborate with and explore, respectively.

In his free time, Vir has been visiting a lot of underground music venues to learn more about that genre in the US. “The underground music culture is big there, and Vir wants to bring some of it to India. In fact, he has apparently even had a few conversations with some such musicians, about bringing them to India for gigs and events,” says an insider.

Confirming the news, Vir says, “Underground music is so unique and raw. It’s a new wave, and given that India’s music culture is currently going through an interesting phase, I felt this was the perfect fit. My band and I are now working to see how we can best collaborate [with these artistes] and also give people in India a taste of this [underground] culture and genre.”
