Sukhvinder Singh refused to sing the anthem for the show Dance Premier League because, he says, TV shows woos stars with mega bucks but treat musicians very poorly.
The anthem was finally sung by singer Shail of Saawariya fame. A spokesperson for DPL said, “We approached Sukhvinder to get the Jai Ho feel in the song. But he turned down the offer saying he didn’t want to stoop down to TV.”
However, Sukhvinder says there’s more to the matter. “I had asked the channel to send me a presentation which they never did. TV channels spend huge sums of money on big stars and treat singers badly. Channels pay big stars lakhs, and offer us Rs 15,000-20,000 for title tracks. That’s one reason I avoid singing for the small screen,” he said.
