Music maestro A R Rahman
has recently set to tune eight poems penned by Union minister of Information and Technology, Kapil Sibal. And Rahman admits that this has been a unique album for him.
“I think we all need change, I have worked with veteran lyricists like Javed (Akhtar) sahab, Gulzar sahab, Majnu Sultanpuri, and when I came across Sibal sahab’s lyrics I thought they were simple yet appealing. They had something to say about life,” says Rahman. In fact, the 48-year-old composer is very excited about another thing too.
“Lataji (Mangeshkar) is singing for this album. There is a song about the girl in your house, Laadli. So, I wanted her voice to bless that song,” he says.
The album was released in Mumbai on Thursday by actor Salman Khan
, and had both Rahman and Sibal in attendance. There was a moment of jest at the event when Salman referred to Rahman as an “average” artist, only quickly ask him to work with him. Rahman later joked, “He (Salman) will have to do the kind of films I like, only then I’ll work with him.” Ask Sibal how the collaboration with Rahman came about, and he says, “When I met Rahman sahab, I told him that I write poems and he asked me for few of my poems, which he liked. He then suggested we should do something and that’s how it all started.”
