If you’ve lamented the dearth of women-fronted rock bands in the city music circuit, here’s your chance to rejoice. Four bands, which cut across genres, all fronted by women vocalists, promise to woo the audience as they take to the stage tonight.

The Divas of Rock concert at Blue Frog will feature city-bands like Shaa’ir + Func (Monica Dogra), 3 Guys And a Girl (Shazneen Arethna) and Love Kamikaze (Sudeepta Sanyal). Joining the army of women is Swedish rock artiste Sophia Jannock.

“I think it’s a brilliant concept to promote women-fronted bands and have them perform at one gig. Even though as a performer, I don’t feel any different on account of being a woman, I believe that it’s fascinating to bring women artistes together on a common platform,” says Shazneen Arethna, vocalist of 3 Guys And A Girl.

Tonight’s gig will feature the rock artiste singing some of her favourite originals including After… and Song For Me….

Having performed in the Bangalore, Chennai and Pune legs of the gigs, Arethna says that the audience has been extremely appreciative of their performance “The response has been great across cities and I feel it’s an amazing experience even for the audience to get to see not just one, but four bands led by women.”

Adds singer-songwriter Sudeepta Sanyal, who fronts Love Kamikaze, a fresh-on-the-scene, alternative pop-rock band, “For us, it is very exciting to be playing alongside veterans like Monica and Shazneen. We are really looking forward to the gig.” Her band will perform their happy tunes, which Sudeepta says, are about “love, hate and everyday happenings.”

Catch the Divas of Rock gig tonight at Blue Frog, 9 pm onwards. Entry Rs 300.
