Lead singer of rock band Agnee, K Mohan may be the newest voice of Bollywood. After composing the Hindi theme song for an soon to release Hollywood superheroes film, The Avengers, the artiste sang for a remix of Kero Mama for Paan Singh Tomar. Now Mohan has sung another single, curiously titled Life Is A Mosambi Juice, which has been composed by Pritam for filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra’s next, Ferrari Ki Sawaari, which releases on April 27.

About his latest track, Mohan, whose first shot at playback singing was with Khanabadosh in London Dreams (2009), says, “When Pritam made me listen to the song, I liked it instantly and agreed to sing. It’s a fun song.”

However, the rocker adds that playback singing isn’t his new driving force. Instead, his real calling is still his music outfit. “Agnee is my identity, so I want to stick to it. I am not going to move to playback singing,” says Mohan, adding that limitations to creative freedom are a big hindrance.

But Mohan isn’t the only one going mainstream. His band Agnee composed a couple of tracks for Dil Dosti Etc (2007) and they are currently working on the soundtrack of a small-budget film, Alaap, which will release this year. However, Mohan maintains his independent stand. “When you sing for someone, you have to sing within the parameters of their references. At the recording the studio, everything — the music, the chorus — are done. You just have to sing your part. There’s no scope for improvisation,” he says.
