The first time they teamed up on a record was at a time when collaborative albums were hardly in vogue.
With the release of Hazir in 1992, tabla player Zakir Husain and veteran singer Hariharan had effortlessly proved that they were, in a way, ahead of their time.
Now, after over two decades, the stalwarts are planning to release the next edition of the album. Hazir 2 will feature eight songs that range from ghazals to romantic ballads.
“We had been nurturing the idea of this album since 2012. The songs are themed around love and separation, hope and despair, desperation and patience. It is simple, yet multifaceted, and though it is about dark romanticism, it presents itself in a contemporary way,” says Hariharan.
He also said: “The album reflects the friendship Zakir and I share. The decision of coming up with this album back then was entirely impromptu. I remember we were at a recording studio when we decided to work on it. Zakir is like an older brother to me. We share a great musical rapport,” says Hariharan.
The launch of this album will take place at a Bandra lounge on May 27.
