Students cheer as states declare board results

CHENNAI/ MUMBAI/ DEHRADUN/ AHMEDABAD: Tamil Nadu students gave their best performance in years for the Class 10 exams with the overall pass percentage touching of 93.6%. Honour for the top three ranks was shared between 276 students. The toppers, two of them, scored 499 out of 500. There were 50 who shared the second rank scoring 498 marks out of 500. 224 students were placed third, with 497 marks. Overall, 7.33 lakh students’ score a first class this year.

Meanwhile, Class 12 results of the Mumbai division saw fewer students bagged distinctions and first class, while number of students scoring below 60% soared. Poor performance of students in the science stream also brought down scores.

Pass percenta g es plummeted across the city. Greater Mumbai has only 83.2% passing compared to 87.61% last year, Mumbai suburb which had 91.36% last year, saw only 87% students passing this year. Number of students securing above 75% too slumped to 33,444 from 34, 504 last year and those securing first class grade (up to 60%) dipped to 87,306 from 92,734. Unfortunately, more students scored less in 50s and 40s - around 1.19 lakh students from 1.15 lakh students last year. Similarly, the number of students just obtaining the pass grade (around 35%) also rose to 18,148, while it was 15,646 last year.

In Uttarakhand the Class 12 results saw girls bagging the top three slots. Meanwhile, S. Science Girls Overall pass percentage Maths Overall pass percentage Boys (score 499 out of 500) Science boys occupied the top spots in the Class 10 boards.

Meanwhile, in the Gujarat Class 10 boards, the overall pass percentage stood at 67.6%, 6% higher than 2015. Of the total 7,91,672 regular students, who appeared for the exam, 7,85,987 (score 498 out of 500) Language Girls (score 497 out of 500) English Overall pass percentage Boys cleared it. Though the Gujarat government has stopped the practice of releasing state and district-wise toppers’ list, Karan Vadher from Alpha School in Vadal with 99.99 percentile is believed to be the topper this year.
