SITAPUR: A youth allegedly staged his abduction with the help of his friends to extort Rs 5 lakh from his father to buy a bike and mobile phone in Manpur area, police said on Saturday.

Chand Alam went missing on June 7, after which his father Yakub received a call demanding the ransom.

Yakub later filed a complaint at the police station, Sitapur superintendent of police, Soumitra Yadav, said.

He said the crime branch and the surveillance cell were investigating the case.

During the investigation, they found the calls had been made from nearby locations, the SP said.

Later, the abductors had agreed on a ransom of 2.5 lakh, Yadav said.

Police nabbed the accused at the time of the delivery of ransom.

During the interrogation, Chand Alam revealed he had hatched the plan with his six friends — Naushad, Shaban, Chand Babu, Irshad, Ahtishaam and Kaamil.

Chand Alam had staged his abduction to get money from his father as he wanted to buy a bike and a mobile phone, the SP said.

He had also assured his friends he would pay them if they helped him execute the plan, Yadav said.
