In 2011, the Opposition’s disruptive tactics had forced the UPA government to agree to a JPC on 2G spectrum scam. But the latest round of logjam in Parliament has cast a spell of uncertainty not only on the 2G JPC but also on the proposed JPC for the Agusta Westland helicopter scam.

The term for the 2G JPC ends on the last day of the current session. If panel chief PC Chacko—under fire from the Opposition — doesn’t seek an extension, the JPC will end without producing any report.

Sources close to Chacko claimed that he may wait for Lok Sabha speaker Meira Kumar’s signal as the Opposition has gone to her seeking his ouster. Chacko, meanwhile, is also in no mood to call a JPC meeting.

Sensing the possibility that the JPC may collapse, Opposition leaders such as Yashwant Sinha and Gurudas Dasgupta (CPI) rushed to the Speaker on Tuesday to keep the panel alive.

Also, the government may drag its feet on forming the JPC on chopper scam, as the Opposition continues to disrupt Parlaiment session.
