Around 75,000 people from across India have petitioned Prime Minister Manmohan Singh not to amend the Right To Information Act introduced in Lok Sabha this week. They have urged the PM to withdraw the amendments exempting political parties from the ambit of the watershed transparency law.

The petition to PM is part of several petitions by civil society groups across India urging the Members of Parliament not to support the government sponsored amend to the law.

The petition submitted under the banner of National Campaign for People’s Right To Information (NCPRI) makes a strong plea on behalf of the citizens that amending the RTI Act to exempt political parties was not a good idea.
