Protesting against the decision of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation to postpone the ceremony to rename a park as "1984 Sikh Memorial Park", leaders of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) and members of Justice for Victims sat on a dharna in front of chief minister Sheila Dikshit's residence on Saturday.
SAD (Badal) Delhi president Manjit Singh GK said the function was being held after necessary approval from all officials concerned but the corporation had postponed the event at the behest of the Delhi chief minister.
"By intervening in the constitutional and autonomous rights of the municipal corporation, the chief minister has not only transgressed but committed an unconstitutional act in eroding the rights of the municipal corporation," said Singh.
The political outfit was also laying the foundation stone to build a memorial for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh carnage in the same park.
The SAD leaders raised anti-Dikshit slogans and also gave a memorandum to the CM. Meanwhile, the police detained several SAD leaders but let them off after a few hours.
