Facing flak for delay in implementation of various projects relating to next year's Commonwealth Games, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Tuesday asked her ministerial colleagues to personally monitor the progress of work and ensure their timely completion. At a cabinet meeting,
Dikshit told the ministers to regularly inspect various project sites and do the needful to ensure that all the projects are completed well ahead of the deadline, officials said.

Last week, President of Commonwealth Games Federation Michael Fennell had criticised the tardy preparation for the prestigious sporting event and had asked Games Organising Committee Chairman Suresh Kalmadi to fix a meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Fennell was miffed at with the pace of the preparation for the October 3-14 multi-disciplinary event and shot off an angry letter, saying the Games was heading for "partial failure" unless the organisers pulled up their socks.

The Chief Minister, who visited Talkatora and Shivaji Stadiums along with senior officers to review the preparedness there yesterday, said all the stadiums and games venues would be upgraded well before the commencement of the event.

Talkatora stadium, which is the venue for boxing and swimming, is being upgraded and refurbished by NDMC at a cost of Rs. 150 crores.
