Andhra Pradesh is the theme state for the coming 25th Surajkund Crafts Mela. This was confirmed by the director of Haryana tourism, SN Rai.
Being the 25th year of the mela, authorities are planning a grand celebration of the silver jubilee. “We have expanded the mela venue by 10 acres in view of the tremendous response the 15-day mela generates,” Rai said, a few days ago, adding that an additional 100 huts will be erected in this mela.
However, he said the idea of making water available to mela revellers, in dry Surajkund, has not materialised due to dearth of water in the area. “I wanted to put water in Surajkund, situated inside the mela campus, but I was told it will initially require at least 2 crore litres of water, which was not possible,” Rai said.
Surajkund Crafts Mela is an annual 15-day event, held from February 1 to February 15, at Surajkund in Haryana. Since foreign countries, especially SAARC nations, become partner countries in the 15-day fair, authorities have contacted 12 countries to join the fair.
The Surajkund Mela has many different theme states over the years.
