Attempted prank leads to chaos

It was an attempted prank that snow-balled into a morning of chaos outside Gargi College in Delhi University’s South Campus with a lone student saving the day.

The student, whom the police refused to identify, was waiting for a bus at the Gargi College bus stop when she spotted the object under the seat she was sitting on.

“It was utter chaos. Not only after she brought the suspicious object to the notice of the police but even after that. We had to wait with bated breath even as the bomb was being defused,” claimed Ravi Shankar (name changed on request), an attendant at Gargi College.

Onlookers were on the edge even as several officers from the south district’s bomb disposal squad as well as the
local police tried to make head or tail of the crudely-assembled attempt at an explosive device.

“It was most certainly a bomb,” said Kishan Kumar, a lab assistant at the college. “I was inside the college compound as officers disarmed it. My heart skipped a beat when I saw smoke billowing out of the crude-looking mixture. One of the officers disarming the bomb even burnt his hands in the process.”
