Two days after a 25-year-old Delhi University student was beaten up and his friend stabbed by three men in a road rage incident in southwest Delhi’s Naraina, Delhi Police have arrested the accused and impounded their vehicle.

The arrested men have been identified as Mohammad Kaiser, Sagar and Sumit Kumar. All of them work in a private call centre in Gurgaon. While Kaiser is a resident of
Gurgaon, the other two live in west Delhi’s Uttam Nagar. They were returning from a holiday from Vrindavan.

The victims have been identified as Virendra Verma, a resident of Palla Village in outer Delhi and his friend Bittu, 24.
According to a police officer, the incident took place on Sunday night when Verma and Bittu were going home in their car after attending a wedding in Munirka. “They were near the Moti Bagh flyover when their car grazed a Maruti Esteem car. The driver of the Esteem car chased them and intercepted them after a few hundred metres,” said the police officer.

The three men in the Esteem then forced the duo to step out of their car. An argument broke out, after which the three men started beating up Verma, the police officer said.

“Bittu tried to save his friend but he was also beaten up. In the melee, Kaisar stabbed Bittu in the stomach with a knife. The knife was attached to the key chain of the car. Verma managed to save himself by fleeing from the spot and called the police control room. By the time a police vehicle reached there, the accused had fled,” the officer said, adding that Bittu’s condition was stable.

A case of attempt to murder was registered at the Naraina police station. The police were able to trace the accused trio with the help of the registration number which one of the victims had noted down.
