Cocaine worth Rs 7 crore seized at IGI airport

More than a kilogramme of cocaine, hidden in cosmetics' containers and valued at an estimated Rs 7 crore in the grey market, were recovered from a Nigerian national at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Sunday, customs officials said.

The carrier, identified as Magret Afolake Adetola, was intercepted at the green channel for a thorough check, customs sources said. She had landed by Ethiopian Airline flight ET-688 from Addis Ababa.

"On examination, 13 plastic bottles of body and beauty lotion, which she was carrying among other baggage, were observed to be inordinately hard and difficult to squeeze," Neeta Lall Butalia, Commissioner of Customs (I&G), said.

These were cut open and it was found that they contained cocaine rolled in plastic pouches. Customs officials claimed, the powdery substance tested positive for cocaine.

In all, 1,360 grams of the substance were recovered from Adetola, who has been arrested.
