The Delhi Police may ask former Union minister Kumari Selja to join the investigation into the murder of her maid’s husband.
Though there was no official word, police sources said on Tuesday that investigators would serve the Congress leader a notice under the CrPC asking her to join the probe and record her statement. They said Selja would be questioned about allegations made by her maid, Manju, that she was being forced to quit and vacate the accommodation allotted to her. The maid has accused Selja of not paying her salary for two months in order to make her leave.
HT made several attempts to contact the former social justice and empowerment minister but the phone calls went unanswered.
The police also officially arrested Selja’s cook Anil Yadav for the murder. Yadav, who was detained Monday, has reportedly confessed to the crime. Manju is also being questioned.
Manju’s husband Sanjay Kumar, 42, was found dead outside the servants’ quarters of Selja’s Motilal Nehru Marg bungalow in central Delhi on Monday morning.
A police officer privy to the investigation confirmed Selja was at home when the murder was discovered, and added that no one present in the bungalow at that time had been given a clean chit yet.
Yadav’s interrogation has revealed he was in a relationship with Manju as a result of which he had frequent fights with Sanjay, said joint commissioner Mukesh Kumar Meena.
The two men, both of whom had been drinking, got into a fight Sunday night. “Sanjay went to the roof and Yadav followed him. They exchanged blows and Yadav pushed Sanjay off the roof with the intent to kill,” said Meena.
