A 22-year-old travel agent has been arrested for allegedly kidnapping, raping and attempting to sell a 15-year-old Class 7 government school student to a brothel on GB Road in old Delhi, the police said on Tuesday.
A team of the east district police rescued the girl on June 26 before she could be sold off.
The victim, a resident of east Delhi's Khichripur, told the police that she had known Chandan, the travel agent, for some time. On the night of June 21, he lured her to an isolated place and raped her. He then took her to his house, where he kept her hostage for five days.
In the meantime, her family lodged a missing person's complaint at the Kalyanpuri police station in east Delhi. Investigators found that the mobile phone the girl was carrying when she went missing was in use.
They accessed the call records and traced the phone to northeast Delhi's Durgapuri where Chandan and a minor friend of his were using it. The police conducted a raid and rescued the girl. The victim reportedly told her family that the two were planning to sell her to a brothel.
Chandan has been booked on the charges of kidnapping and rape. His minor friend has also been apprehended.
