A five-year-old girl child, who had been missing from her east Delhi residence on Sunday evening, was found brutalised inside a locked room below her Gandhi Nagar residence on Wednesday.
Police said they suspected the hand of a tenant who had rented a room from the victim’s family a week before the incident and was currently untraceable.
“The victim, according to her family members, was last seen playing outside her residence on Sunday evening. Her parents had approached the local police station immediately after she went missing and registered a case of kidnapping,” said Prabhakar, DCP (east).
As the police formed several teams and began a search for missing child, her parents heard the sounds of a child crying from a locked room below the house. They alerted the police about the “strange” sounds. A team of officers broke down the house and found the child howling in agony, smeared in her own blood.
“She was rushed to the SDM hospital where her condition was stated to be stable. Several teams are on the lookout for the missing tenant,” DCP Prabhakar added.
In a similar incident, a three-year-old girl was raped by her neighbour after he lured her to an isolated place in southwest Delhi’s Najafgarh on Thursday afternoon.
The accused, however, was nabbed by some passersby who were alerted by the girl’s screams and rushed to the spot.
A mob beat up the accused, identified as Randhir, 25, before handing him over to the police. A case of rape was registered against Randhir and he was arrested. Police said the accused worked as a driver in a private travel agency in Najafgarh and is married.
