The Delhi Police has for the first time put up the names, photographs, addresses and case details of convicted sex offenders on their website.
Under this ‘name and shame’ move, senior crime branch officials said they have outed 668 persons convicted of ‘serious’ sexual offences, such as rape, molestation and eveteasing, over the last three decades (1983-2013).
“It is in pursuance of a government directive that seeks to deter sexual criminals from relapsing and committing similar offences post-conviction,” said Ravindra Yadav, additional commissioner of police (crime).
“Given the recurring nature of such offences, the objective is also to provide adequate information to those residing in and around the vicinity of these persons to keep themselves safe.”
According to sources, 1983 was chosen as a starting point as there was very little information on sexual offences in the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) before that year.
Of the 668, 437 were found guilty of rape, 188 of molestation and 43 of eveteasing, police said.

"Our project is a microcosm of a larger, national project that is unfolding under the aegis of the NCRB. These records will be updated regularly," Yadav said.
