A blood bank run by Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) in the capital has been rated 'excellent' in a WHO sponsored study.

The study was conducted by the Bureau of Laboratory Quality Standards of the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand, an ESIC release said here on Tuesday.

It said the 600-bedded hospital at Basaidarapur on the Ring Road was rated the best among 16 participating blood bank laboratories in nine countries.

"In all the parameters, the blood bank of this ESI Hospital has secured excellent rating," the release said.

The ESI Hospital at Basaidarapur is the largest in the country having all specialities, including an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and a full fledged cardiology unit.

It functions as a referral hospital for over half a million workers insured with ESIC in Delhi region and serves as an Occupational Disease Centre for the entire northern region, the release added.
