A Delhi University (DU) lecturer was among four persons arrested for their alleged involvement in cases of sexual assault till Thursday, police said.
The first incident, police said, was reported from northwest Delhi’s Rohini where the political science lecturer of a DU college raped an engineering student on the pretext of marriage.
“The accused is a resident of Timarpur and a teacher at DU. The victim in her complaint has claimed that he developed a physical relationship with her after promising marriage, but later went back on his promise,” an officer investigating the case said.
The girl approached the KN Katju Marg police station on Monday and, based on her statement, a case of sexual assault was lodged. He was later arrested and sent to judicial custody.
In the second incident, a 21-year-old woman accused her former live-in partner of raping her in west Delhi’s Nangloi. According to the police, the victim said that she had been living with one Jai Prakash at a rented house for the past two years. “A month ago, when she started pressuring Jai for marriage, he refused to marry her and fled,” an officer said. The woman then approached the local police station and a case of rape was registered after a medical examination. Jai was arrested on the basis of technical surveillance by the police after the victim’s complaint. Two other similar cases were, meanwhile, reported from southeast Delhi’s Pul Prahladpur. In the first incident, an 18-year-old girl was raped by her father’s colleague. Police said the victim lived with her family at a rented house and was alone when she was sexually assaulted. In a separate incident, one Rais was arrested for allegedly raping a 21-year-old girl.
