File RTI pleas online from today

The information may still be hard to come by. But it is getting easier to invoke your Right to Information.

Minister of state for personnel V Narayanasamy will formally launch its website on Wednesday to enable netizens to file their RTI requests with central government departments.

Online information requests would have to stick to a 3,000 character limit. In case it gets any longer, the applicant will be free to upload the additional details.

To begin with, the website will accept the fee using the applicant’s SBI Internet banking or credit and debit cards of Master/Visa.

The move comes after the department of personnel & training (DoPT) aborted a move to set up a full-fledged call center and portal to receive RTI requests, saying it was expensive and unfeasible.
