The next time your flight is delayed at Delhi airport, indulge your feet.
The new domestic departure terminal 1D of Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport is now providing foot and calf massages to passengers, free of cost. Private airport operator Delhi International Airport Ltd. (DIAL) has installed six foot massage chairs at the new terminal and services were started from August 15.
After checking in and clearing security checks, passengers can use these massage chairs in the security hold area while waiting for boarding of their flight to start.
“There are specially trained staff to operate and maintain these machines,” said a DIAL spokesperson. DIAL plans to add more such chairs in the future.
“The calf and foot massager delivers powerful kneading action and soothing vibrations that penetrate into sore, stiff muscles to help relieve tension and fatigue. Thick, cushioned, full-coverage kneading discs deliver a squeeze to the calves, ankles and feet, all at once,” the spokesperson added.
Passengers can use the kneading and vibration modes together or separately.
DIAL has more plans to pamper passengers.
The upcoming integrated terminal 3 of the airport would house a spa offering facilities like massages, pedicures, manicures and facials. These facilities, however, would not be free.
“Apart from retail outlets and eateries at terminal 1D, we have also provided a play area for children, free strollers for infants, executive lounges, a smoking area and contact zones for the elderly, children and people with special needs,” the spokesperson said.
Built over 35,000 square metres (which can accommodate six and a half football fields) and commissioned three months ago, the two-level terminal 1D is designed by well-known architect Hafeez Contractor.
