The Delhi Police will file a chargesheet in connection with the August 15 gang rape of a 28-year-old nurse at Oberoi Hotel within 20 days.
The two accused have already been arrested. The accused, identified as Neeraj and Rajan, were arrested from the hotel after the nurse — of Tibetan descent — filed an FIR with the Hazrat Nizamuddin police station on Monday morning.
The two were the personal staff of the hotel owner’s ailing wife for whom the nurse had been employed. Neeraj was the cook of the hotel owner’s ailing wife. A Delhi court has already sent the two to judicial custody for 14 days.
The police have roped in an NGO to counsel the rape victim. “We have been told that she is still traumatised. The men had threatened to kill her if she told anyone about the incident,” said a senior police officer.
Asked if they had enough evidence to prove the guilt of the two men, the officer said they had collected sufficient proof to prove the charges.
“We have collected CCTV footage that confirmed that the woman was present at the hotel that day. Her medical exam has confirmed her allegations,” the officer added.
The nurse — who works at a prominent private hospital in Delhi — had been going to the hotel for the past two months to take care of the hotel owner’s 80-year-old ailing wife. It was the nurse’s husband who had approached the police after she told him about the gang rape.
“The incident is very unfortunate. The individuals in question are not hotel employees. We are fully cooperating with the police and local authorities with the investigation,” said a press statement from the hotel management.
