The Delhi Police on Monday told the Delhi High Court that they have arrested a guard of a government-run children's home in Alipur for allegedly sodomising a seven-year-old HIV positive boy.
"Initially, three boys of the home were suspects who were later found to be innocent. After speaking to some inmates last week, we zeroed in on the guard named Amar and arrested him," police counsel Pawan Sharma told a bench headed by justice SK Kaul.
"Some inmates of the home also complained that the guard used to beat and abuse them. This fact came to light during a probe by the Child Welfare Committee (CWC). He has now been sent to Tihar in judicial custody," Sharma said.
The court had ordered a suo motu enquiry into the incident after media reports. Sharma informed the court that an FIR under section 377 IPC (unnatural offences) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act was registered after the incident came to light.
The boy was brought to the home three years ago by an NGO after his mother died of AIDS. His stepfather was lodged in Tihar jail for raping his daughter.
The police said the CWC has already shifted the boy from the Alipur home to Asha Kiran home in Rohini. It is already conducting a separate inquiry into the incident.
