Illegal properties razed in north Delhi

The North Delhi Municipal Corporation, taking a stern stand against unauthorised constructions, on Tuesday undertook a demolition drive on four properties in the City Zone where illegal structures had come up.

At Gali Laheswa in Sita Ram Bazar, the entire ground floor of a house was demolished after being branded as unauthorized. At Phatak Badal Beg in Hauz Qazi, the roof and partition walls on the first floor and second floor, where around 25 shops were being constructed, were demolished.

At Matia Mahal, more than 15 flats being constructed for commercial purposes were demolished while at Naya Bazar in Chandni Chowk, illegal extensions on first and second floor of a building were razed.

This joint action with the help of team of engineers from the headquarters was planned to safeguard the field staff from attacks and public backlash.

Last week, a junior engineer of the North civic body was assaulted after a demolition drive at Darya Ganj. The junior engineers then sat on a dharna to protest. Later after meeting commissioner PK Gupta, who assured them of taking the matter up with police authorities.
