The CBI, which is gathering details on the identities of two deceased in the Ishrat Jahan encounter Amjad Ali and Jishan Johar, will quiz a Muslim cleric and a medical personnel in Jammu and Kashmir, who allegedly came in contact with them.
Officials, however, told HT, “As of now, we are not checking with Pakistan via Interpol whether Amjad and Jishan were its citizens or not.”
Preparing to file a supplementary charge sheet, the CBI has announced a cash reward for details on Amjad and Jishan.
According to police inspector Bharatkumar Amrutlal Patel, whose witness statement is part of the CBI charge sheet, Amjad had identified himself as a native of Sargodha in Pakistan’s Punjab.
“While crossing the LoC in Kashmir, he had received a bullet injury on his shoulder in an encounter with security forces and he was kept in the house of a Maulvi,” said Patel.
According to Patel, Amjad allegedly admitted to being a Lashkar operative, tasked with carrying out terror strikes in Ahmedabad. According to the Ahmedabad crime branch’s FIR, Jishan was a native of Gujranwala in Pakistan’s Punjab.
