Two minor sisters on Thursday alleged that their mother's live-in partner had been subjecting them to sexual assault for over a year at their residence in a north Delhi village, police said.
The police said the siblings, aged 11 and 13, had claimed that they were being molested by one 35-year-old Rakesh Mishra, at their residence in the Shahbad Dairy village ever since he moved in with their mother in mid-2012.
"Mishra is a car mechanic and used to victimize the sisters when their mother, who works as a household maid, was away at work," said an officer.
According to the police, the sisters broke their silence on Wednesday evening in front of a neighbour after another round of sexual exploitation at the hands of Mishra.
The neighbour intimated the local police about the incident. The siblings were medically examined and sexual assault was confirmed.
A case was registered immediately with a police team nabbing Mishra soon after.
"During questioning, Mishra told us that he hails from Uttar Pradesh's Kushi Nagar and is married with five children, which implies that he was in an illicit relationship with the victims' mother," the officer said.
"Two separate cases of rape have been registered against Mishra and we are in the process of examining whether the siblings' mother was aware of the exploitation that her children were being subjected to," the officer added.
