In an incident that raises serious questions about the safety of women, a man secretly filmed a lady advocate while she was in the toilet in the old lawyers’ chamber building inside the Delhi high court premises on Monday.

The man, believed to be a cleaning staff, climbed a shaft behind the toilet on the first floor and shot the video with his mobile phone through an exhaust fan opening.

The Delhi high court Bar Association (DHCBA) said they are looking into the complaint.

“The man escaped when the lady lawyer raised an alarm.

He was wearing a cleaning staff’s uniform. We have detained four people based of the description and they are being interrogated. Their mobile phones have been seized”, DHCBA sources said.

“The phone belonging to one of the four matched the description given by the lawyer. Suspicion grew as there is not a single video in the phone, which may suggest all videos had been deleted,” sources added.

“The incident raises serious concerns. If this can happen to a lawyer, and that too inside court premises, women are not safe anywhere,” said lawyer Meera Bhatia, who is also a member of the advocate’s committee to prevent sexual harassment at the workplace.
