Four youths, including a woman, were allegedly thrashed by their former landlord following an altercation at Munirka Village in South Delhi on Friday night.

The police have registered a case in this regard at the Vasant Vihar police station and arrested one Dinesh.

According to the police, the victims include three youths and a 24-year-old woman from Manipur. The police said the accused used to be their landlord earlier. They had moved out of his rented accommodation some time back.

Madhu Chandra, spokesperson of Northeast Support Centre and Helpline (NSCH) said the victims are temporarily residing in Munirka.

“The victims were assaulted by the landlord and his men last night. All the victims hail from Manipur. Two of them are working in private companies in New Delhi. The woman is staying with her husband and one-year-old child,” Chandra said.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 9.30pm when one of the victims visited his cousin, to inform him about a job vacancy in some company. While he was leaving his cousin’s rented flat, he met the landlord on the road. The police said that initially the accused wanted to speak to him, as he was his old tenant. However, the victim was in a hurry and said he would talk to him later. This enraged the accused who allegedly assaulted him. Soon some of the friends of the accused also joined in the fight and started beating the victim.

“When his sister, brother-in-law and another cousin, who all live together saw what was happening, they all came to his rescue. They too were then assaulted,” said a senior police officer. The victims, however, claimed that the police initially didn’t register their complaint. They later called the Kuki Students’ Organisation Delhi and lodged a formal complaint at the Vasant Vihar police station.
