Ten days after the body of a 21-year-old aspiring model was found stuffed in a bag at his friend's rented accommodation in east Delhi's Mandawali, investigators have arrested his friend, who is a scriptwriter.
Shanti Deep Verma, 31, a scriptwriter, was arrested on Sunday afternoon from Uttar Pradesh's Bahraich district by a Delhi Police team.
Earlier, the Delhi Police had announced a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for any information about Verma, who had been absconding ever since the incident came to fore.
Verma has written scripts for some television serials and documentary movies and is likely be brought to Delhi by Monday morning.
On February 23 evening, Sumit Tiwary's body was found stuffed in a plastic bag at Verma's rented accommodation in Mandawali.
Verma's involvement was suspected in the murder as he was found to be missing and two ransom calls of Rs 2 lakh were made from Tiwary's phone to his father.
"The preliminary investigation into the matter suggested that Tiwary was murdered for money. However, we were probing the case from other possible motives Now that we have arrested Verma, his questioning will reveal his motive behind the murder," said a senior investigating officer.
According to a senior police officer, investigators had been tracing ever since he went missing from his Karawal Nagar flat and his family received two ransom calls.
Investigators located the house after tracking the location of the mobile phone used to make the ransom call and discovered the body.
