Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav articulated the concept of a "non Congress and non BJP" alternative once again on Saturday, while ruling out possibilities of joining the UPA.

Asked if he had been invited to join the Manmohan Singh cabinet, he said that neither had the PM called him, nor was he considering joining the government. Gathering at a book launch function on the speeches made by socialist leader Ram Manohar Lohia in the Lok Sabha, leaders of the SP, TDP and CPI also supported a resolution calling for the need to set up a political formation that could form the government in case the two major political parties failed to reach the majority mark.

CPI's AB Bardhan and Nama Nageshwara Rao of TDP asked Yadav to take the lead in giving shape to the "alternative politics". The leaders, however, expressed reservations at a line in the resolution, which suggested the group members to contest the 2014 Lok Sabha polls under a common symbol. The line was later deleted.
