Two sons of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Haji Aleem Chaudhary were arrested on Wednesday morning for killing the third wife of the Bulandshahr MLA in northeast Delhi’s New Jafrabad last year, the police said.
The police claimed that the woman was killed over a property dispute.
The accused duo had been on the run from the police for around five months and carried a cash reward of Rs 30,000 each on their heads. They were identified as Mohammad Danish, 24, and Anas, 23. Danish used to work as a manager at his father’s meat factory, while Anas is a BBA student.
“A reward of Rs 30,000 each had been declared on their arrest by Delhi police commissioner Bhim Sain Bassi. They were produced before a court and sent to two days of police custody,” said a senior police officer
The duo has been accused of murdering their stepmother, Rihana Begum — the third wife of BSP MLA Chaudhary.
“They went to Lucknow after the murder and from there proceeded to Mewat, where they remained in hiding till now,” the officer added.
Rihana Begum was found dead with gunshot and stab wounds in her New Jafrabad house on October 9, 2013. Rihana had married Aleem in 1990, but the couple did not have any child.
“During the course of investigation, it was learnt that Aleem did not have good relations with first wife Kamar Jahan and her sons Danish and Anas,” the officer said.
On investigation, it was found that Danish and Anas, along with their friend’s driver Mohammad Nadeem, had left their house in Bulandshahr on October 8, 2013.
Evidence indicated that all three of then were present at the scene of crime at the time of the incident.
“The call data records of Danish and Anas were analysed, and their accomplices were interrogated at length,” the officer added.
On Tuesday, an intelligence input was received that Danish and Anas would visit a madarsa at Hazrat Nizamuudin in south east Delhi on Wednesday morning.
A police team along with the informer kept an eye out for the duo and nabbed them as soon as they got there.
