Come July, all Delhi University students will have to study a mandatory paper in mathematical ability, irrespective of what subject they choose, under the new four-year baccalaureate degree programme.

The move has unnerved students who do not consider mathematics their strong point.

Those deciding on the course content, however, say the course will not have complex theorems and equations but would hone skills that are needed in daily life.

For instance, the university has suggested project work on analysis of population migration data and effect on urbanisation, career graph of a cricketer, correlation between pollution and vehicle registration data and safety of low-floor buses. The course will provide a basic idea about numbers.
