The crime branch of Delhi police have busted another medicine racket in which drugs were stolen from different government hospitals and subsequently sold in the market illegally.

Five people, including the storekeeper of ex-serviceman's contributory health scheme (ECHS), have been arrested by the police. A huge quantity of government hospital medicines were also seized from the possession of the accused.

The medicines worth over Rs. 12 lakh belonged to the Railway Hospital, ECHS hospitals, ESI hospitals and the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital. The role of several employees of these hospitals is under the scanner and some more people, who were part of the racket, will soon be arrested, the police said.

The arrested persons have been identified as Neeraj Kumar, Sachin Gupta, Hari Shankar Chhabra, Hari Nath Gupta and Ram Vir Singh. Singh was working as a storekeeper in an ECHS polyclinic located in Lodhi Road, while Chhabra ran a medicine shop at Bhagirath Palace market.

SBS Tyagi, DCP (crime), said the arrests came following investigation into information received by head constable (HC) Rajeev Tyagi about Neeraj Kumar and Sachin Gupta allegedly running a government hospital drug racket.

“The information was developed and the two were arrested in Rohini area with government hospitals drugs in bulk. Their interrogation led to the arrest of other three accused,” said SBS Tyagi.
