After Mamata Banerjee succeeded Lalu Prasad as the Railways Minister, boarding a Bihar-bound train became tougher.

Reason: The emergency or VVIP quota for more than 10 Bihar-bound trains have been radically slashed.

After Prasad’s exit, popular trains that have a reduced quota include the Bihar Sampark Kranti, Vikramshila, Magadh, Shramjivi, Sapt Kranti and the Vaishali Express.

Responding to an RTI application by Subhash Chandra Aggarwal, the Railways has reported to the following quota reductions for the sleeper class: The quota for the Vaishali Express has been reduced from 42 to 24, while Sapt Kranti Express has a present quota of 24 against the earlier 60.

The reduction in Swatantra Senani, Lichchivi, Vikramshila and Shramjivi Express has been from 40 to 24, while Bihar Sampark Kranti quota has been reduced from 52 to 30.
