Cricket star Sachin Tendulkar was the centre of attention on his first day in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday. Actress Rekha, who was nominated along with him in April, attended the session for the second time.
Tendulkar and Rekha also met President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhawan later in the day.
Both the nominated members were present in the House since morning on the first day of the Monsoon session and keenly observed the proceedings. As he entered the Rajya Sabha, all MPs turned to have a look at the batting maestro. “It is a new experience for me,” Tendulkar told reporters outside Parliament.
Rekha was another head-turner as she entered the House in a cream coloured saree.
Both were warmly received by MPs.
Rekha had first attended the House during the budget session, earlier this year when she took the oath.
Tendulkar and Rekha witnessed the House being adjourned twice over Assam violence and alleged desecration of BR Ambedkar's statues in Uttar Pradesh.
Both stars in their respective fields also called on the President at Rashtrapati Bhavan during which Mukherjee briefed them about parliamentary procedures, his press secretary Venu Rajamony said after the meeting.
