Rickshawpuller beaten to death for protecting daughters’ dignity

He paid with his life for defending the dignity of his daughters.

On Wednesday night, five men attacked 55-year-old Parasram, a rickshaw puller, with iron rods and stones when he tried to stop them from harassing his two daughters. He died after the incident in which the victim's daughters were also injured.

The incident happened in Tilak Nagar area in West Delhi at 10:30pm on Wednesday.

The police have registered a case of murder and arrested two men.

"The two arrested are Kamta Prasad and Asaram. We have also apprehended a juvenile in the case," said V Renganathan, deputy commissioner of police (West).

Police said Parasram and his family, including his wife, two daughters and son, were sitting outside their house when five men, living in the same locality, started passing lewd comments.

"The victim protested and asked the men to leave the place. This was followed by a heated argument between them. The accused then thrashed the victim and attacked him with iron rods

and stones. He was immediately rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where he was declared brought dead," said a senior police officer investigating the case.

The younger daughter of the deceased was also injured in the incident.

"They had been making our lives hell for a long time. They used to tease my sister and me whenever we stepped out of our house. We told our father about this and he told the men to behave. They came back for revenge and killed our father," said one of the daughters of the deceased.
